Malacca

malacca is the third smallest state in malaysia. it is a very historical city.

According to the legend, Parameswara, a prince from Palembang, was resting under a tree while hinting when he saw a deer pushing a dog into a river in self defense. he was so impressed bu the courage of the deer and took it as a good sign to create an empire in that area, and decided to name the place "melacca" after the tree that he was sheltering under.


after many failed plans of going up to Malacca, we finally put our foot down and decided to drive up there. with 5 cars and together with some friends, we drove up to Malacca, for a weekend trip.
Malacca was listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, which made it very intriguing.


we arrived there at noon, perfect timing for lunch. as Malacca was renounced for its variety for food it was time for us to actually experience it first hand.

we stopped to a small restaurant which served seafood. as expected it was delicious.


we found our hub and after an hours rest we decided on going sight seeing.

we went in to the city center. to our delight nothing is very far in Malacca and a few minutes walk over the river is the central town square and colonial district full of museums telling the story of the city's history.
A Famosa is a a Portuguese fortress located in Malacca. it is said to be one of the most  oldest surviving European architectural remains in Asia.

the next day, sunrise  offered a very  beautiful spectacle.
we were all very eager to go off on our island hopping. our first destination was Soyak island. it was beautiful..

from there we went to monkey bay. had a glorious swim and did some snorkeling. the beach was as beautiful as beautiful as renounced.
it was the hype of the day, calm and relaxing.

renggis island was the next. as beautiful as the previous island.

had our lunch at Tuara village beach, most of us were raving hungry after a busy morning.

we headed back to salang after visiting the turtle sanctuary, all excited for the nights barbecue.

As exciting as it was, getting to Mersing in a bus full of students can be tiring, but we were all all excited to get into the ferry and be on our way to Salang Village.
the ferry ride was exceptionally calm. most of us were able to catch on a bit of sleep. 

the first sight of tiomen island took our breath away. it was simply magnificent. the sea was so clear and blue, took our breaths away.


we were taken to salang beach resort, which was kind of bit of a disappointment, but the notion that it was just a few meters away from the beach made it all worthwhile.

most of us were too tired and had to retire. for me, it was another new destination and my free spirit urged me to go explore the place. 

it was quite and peaceful. the smell of fresh salt air and the sound of the rhythm of waves breaking was very relaxing, after the hectic city life.


the first night at tiomen island was uneventful. we all had an early dinner and sat on the beach. some students took out their guitars and started playing..bringing a peaceful end to a beautiful day.
